According to the Facts and Factors report, the global Abdominal Stent Graft System market size was valued at around USD 285 million in 2022 and is expected to reach around USD 390 million by 2030 with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 4.58% during the projection 2023-2030.
The Global Abdominal Stent Graft System Market Is Driven by the Growing Prevalence of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAA) and Increase in the Number of Endoscopic Repair Surgeries Performed Globally
The abdominal stent graft is a type of fabric tube that is placed in the aorta and is supported by a metal framework. The abdominal stent graft is placed in the aorta, the main artery that carries blood from the heart to various organs in the body, using a catheter. Abdominal stent graft is mainly used for reducing pressure on the aneurysm and providing a new path for blood flow. The enlargement of an artery, which may be caused due to weakness of the arterial wall, is known as aneurysm.
One of the main causes of aneurysm is high blood pressure and atherosclerosis. Wound infections may also cause aneurysm. Stent grafts are primarily used in procedures like an endovascular aortic repair for sealing aortic aneurysms. Stent grafts generally have a self-expanding stent frame that has materials for sealing arterial walls and avoid blood leaks.
In endovascular stent grafting, stent grafts are placed inside aneurysm. The procedure involving the placing of stent grafts is done without surgical opening of the tissue surrounding the aneurysms. Abdominal stent graft available in the market are produced from materials like polyester, platinum-iridium, and nickel-titanium (nitinol).
Some of the benefits of abdominal stent graft surgery is that the surgical procedure is less time intensive as patients have to spend less time in intensive care unit (ICU). Further, endoscopic repair surgeries have low complication rate and can be performed under local anesthesia. Also, patients undergoing endoscopic repair surgeries may lose less blood during the procedure than blood lost during open surgery and this also decreases the rise of blood transfusion.

There are two types of primary treatments available for treating abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA), one is open surgery and the other is endovascular stent grafting. In an Endovascular Stent Grafting, a stent graft is placed in the body without opening the tissue. Abdominal stent graft system is mainly used in endoscopic repair surgeries for treating abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). The demand for abdominal stent graft has increased in recent years owing to growing prevalence of abdominal aortic aneurysm among people aging more than 50 years.
Abdominal aortic aneurysm is common among men than among women. Smoking and high blood pressure are causes of AAA. The number of persons with high blood pressure and hypertension has been increasing around the world. In United States of America, approximately 45% of adults are suffering from hypertension and around 25% of those adults have their hypertension under control. This has led to an increased chance of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). Ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) has caused nearly 15,000 deaths annually in United States of America and is considered to be the 13th leading cause of death in the country.
Further, the number of people smoking has increased around the world. Smoking has raised the chances of AAA. The number of surgeries performed for treating AAA has also increased in recent years and this has been one of the key growth driving factor for the global abdominal stent graft system market.
Regional Overview:
In terms of region, the North American region dominated the abdominal stent graft system market in 2019, accounting for a market share of 35%. The North American abdominal stent graft system market is driven by growing cases of abdominal stent graft system market in the region, which has also driven the number of surgeries for treating AAA. This, in turn, has driven the global abdominal stent graft system market.
